I've been testing for Centercode for several years. Since signing up, I've been selected for about a dozen betas and I've been lucky enough to test some really cool stuff. After one test, I was even interviewed and quoted by BusinessWeek Online. Pretty cool stuff.
You do have to fill out a "survey" in order to be considered for a beta test and you don't always get picked, so I can understand the previous commenter's frustration. There have been more than a few tests that I would have loved to be a part of, but I guess I just didn't fit the demographic.
Oh, and as far as incentives for testing: they are the real deal.
I've received a final version of the product I tested on a majority of the tests. Sometimes the stuff you test is the final version, so they just let you keep it once the test is done. A few things I've tested never went to final production, cause they sucked, or had too many problems, etc... and in those cases they "paid up" with other products from the same company or a gift card.
They always make it worth the time and effort you put into it.
