This is how Starving Students dups their customers into thinking one thing, when they tell you and prices, etc. and the actual service they provide, a complete 180 degree u turn on what they promise. We even had the CEO of the company tell us that we should call him if we had any problems. As soon as we had a problem he refused to take any phone calls. In all my moving experiences this is the absolute worst company I have ever dealt with. They will say anything to sell you a move and quote prices and tell you what a great job they will do for you but the reality is they are a fly by night company who will hire anyone to do your moving and not keep their word (written or verbal) on anything. What should have been a 6-8 hr move (b/c that's what every other moving company told us) turned into a 14 hr move that wasn't even completed. The movers were inexperienced, one didn't even know how to shrink wrap, they mainly stood around and talked about how and where to put the truck and how to move the furniture as opposed to actually moving anything. ALL the packing and moving of boxes was already done before they got to the first apartment, so all they had to do was move furniture and a few odds and ends. We were assured by SS that we would have movers knowledgeable about assembling and disassembling furniture, particularly antiques; however, the men had no idea what they were doing and as a result, spent at least 2 hours dissassembling both armoires and getting them on the truck. Every moving company we have had prior to this disassembled and assembled both armoires in a total of two hours, without any supervision. They didn't even know they were supposed to reassemble the armoires in the new apartment (which they ended up never doing anyway). Since we called to complain so often during the move, SS sent a manager to see how the move was going. The manager did nothing but play with our four dogs. The move started at 9:45 am and it was 5:15 pm before we left Pasadena to go to Sherman Oaks. After unloading, it was midnight and the men were doing very sloppy and destructive work (including wasting time putting furniture upstairs when we told them it went downstairs, and vice versa), so we called it a night and they promised to come back early next morning, which they did not, nor did they return our calls until almost noon the next day. We had to hire other people to finish the move, and they did it in less than 2 hours. SS is now refusing to process our claim for the damaged items due to their inept movers (like one mover trying to move an extremely heavy couch on his own, thereby ripping all the protective plastic wrap and dropping the couch several times), because they say we have to pay the outstanding invoice of $900 more. They want us to pay for a 14 hour move that was never even completed! I already paid them $800 ($200 of which was for the top tier insurance). During the day of the move, we were assured by the Starving Students management that they would "work with us on the bill", which they did not. They are now insisting we pay their ridiculous invoice for a move that should have taken absolutely no more than 8 hrs (as any other moving company will tell you), and stated they would not pay for the damage even though we paid the extra $200.00 for their top tier insurance. I only gave them one star because this program does not allow you to have no stars or a minus star!!!
